The cause of Tuesday afternoon’s power outage in Washington appears to have been equipment failure.  Alliant Energy Spokesperson Ryan Stensland says when transformers go out they will usually attribute it to animals or weather.

Stensland says many times a freeze and thaw cycle will contribute to equipment failure like what was experienced earlier this week as well.

During the outage, almost 1500 customers were without power.
