SMART Board Donation to Home School Association

The Mid-Prairie Home School Association has received a SMART Board from the Washington Hy-Vee.  A SMART Board is an interactive white board that uses touch detection for user input.

Keota City Council Hears Junk Complaints

The Keota City Council met on Monday for their meeting and a public hearing on a tax abatement plan. At the meeting some citizens expressed their concerns with the state of some of the towns properties, specifically about junk in yards.

Four Contenders in Keokuk Sheriff Elections After OWI Charge

The race for Keokuk County Sheriff is heating up after current Sheriff Jeff Shipley was charged with OWI, although the charges were later dropped. Previously Ron George, a former Sheriff of Keokuk County, and Tom Hadley, and candidate in the 2008 Sheriff election had filed for candidacy.

Jumping Asian Carp in Southern Waterways

Officials in the Iowa Great Lakes Area are considering installing an electric fence to keep out Asian Carp, which made their way up the Missouri River during last year’s flooding. Asian Carp are a fish that are famous for jumping out of the water, and can injure boaters and skiers. But it’s not just a problem for the Iowa Great Lakes. Chad Dolan, Fisheries Biologist at Lake Darling State Park, says there is carp our in our area waterways too, especially in the southern portion of Southeast Iowa.

American Legion Hosts “The Wall”
