Alexander Mendoza Ortega, an 18 year old from Washington, was convicted of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree yesterday afternoon. Mendoza Ortega was accused of performing a sex act through the use of force or against the will of a 14 year old female resident of Washington County on July 24^th of 2011. The trial consisted of about a day and a half of testimony and almost seven and a half hours of jury deliberation. The jury delivered a unanimous verdict finding Mendoza Ortega guilty. He has been taken to the Washington County Jail to await sentencing on April 13^th. He will be sentenced to a term not to exceed ten years in prison, and will be required to register a sex offender for the rest of his life.
