One Year Anniversary of Blizzard

The blizzard that buried Washington and southeast Iowa with more than a foot of snow one year ago today was caused by a number of factors says Bill Nichols with the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities. He says the main two causes were a lot of cold air already located over the area and weather systems that rotated in the western part of the country and the Gulf of Mexico leading the storm to give up so much snow. Nichols says in terms of the winds associated with the storm, it was the equivalent to a Nor’easter.
He adds the chances of seeing another storm like last year’s blizzard are slim, they occur about every ten to 25 years. Whenever severe winter weather hits the area, stay tuned to KCII as we are the one to count on for the latest information before, during and after the storm.
