Low Chance of Spring Flooding Predicted

The National Weather Service has released its first spring flooding outlook of the year, and the chance of spring flooding is down for this year. State Climatologist Harry Hillkaer says based on current soil moisture, current river levels and lack of snow pack, the odds are well below normal that flooding will occur across southeast Iowa. He says the main reason for this outlook is because of the hot summer last year and a very dry early to mid-fall.
Hillaker adds if we should receive a large amount of snow yet this winter, it won’t have a major effect on the flooding because of the low water content that would be in that storm system. The National Weather service will issue another flood outlook late next week and could issue more depending on the flooding possibility and KCII will monitor any flooding forecasts and will bring you the information to keep you safe during any flooding outbreaks.
