Tax Season Deadline Extended
Posted: January 11, 2012 @ 6:24 am In Today's Local News
With the new year also comes a time to get ready to file last year’s tax information. Those that like to procrastinate in filing their taxes have an extra two days to do so this year says Christopher Miller with the Internal Revenue Service. He says the reason for the extra time is caused by April 15th falling on a Sunday and a holiday in the District of Columbia being the next day.
The deadline to file taxes will be Tuesday, April 17th. He says taxpayers filing for an extension have until October 15th to file their 2011 tax returns.
Kay Arvidson, Assistant Public Information Officer for the Iowa Department of Revenue says taxpayers have until the end of April to file their state returns. Both Miller and Arvidson say anyone wanting to file their taxes electronically can begin doing so next Tuesday the 17th.
Here in Iowa, Arvidson says, 85% of Iowans filed their taxes electronically last year leading the country in the percentage of taxpayers to not submit paper returns.
