Secretary of State Matt Schultz has released a plan that would require voters to present an ID card to be allowed to vote. Those opposed to this requirement say it would make it more difficult for those who are poor, young, or elderly to vote. Bill Fredrick, Washington County’s Auditor, thinks its not a bad idea to require some sort of ID for voting, but doesn’t see the need for it in the small communities of Washington County. He says the people in charge of voting centers can ask for a valid ID to confirm residency, but generally they don’t need to. He says most of them know the residents of the community well enough that they don’t need to confirm when they come to vote. He also thinks that a system requiring an ID would be too costly for small communities.
