National Guard Education Funding on to Branstad

As previously reported, the National guard announced that they would have to cut the financial aid given to its members from 90% to 50%. The Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously agreed that they would re-appropriate $1.3 million in funding to help fund financial aid to the guardsmen who need it. The bill has passed the house and is now on to the governor’s office. Senator Sandy Greiner says she supports the funding for the National Guardsmen, and thinks its a bi-partisan issue that not many were opposed to, as proven by the unanimous vote for the bill in the Senate. The $1.3 million in funding, if the bill is signed by Governor Branstad, would allow the National Guard to continue to pay 90% of tuition in the next school year.
