Fairfield NRCS Office to be Closed
Posted: January 13, 2012 @ 6:21 am In Today's Local News
The USDA is proposing office closures all across the country to eliminate redundancies in service and reduce costs. The Fairfield Natural Resource Conservation office is one of 24 NRCS offices that will be closed across the country. This office has only three employees says Matt Herrick, a spokesman for the USDA, and that is one of the reason this office was chosen to be closed.
He says these employees have been offered the chance to work at the NRCS offices in Waverly, Iowa, Galeton, Missouri, or work over the phone. He says those who are served by this office will still be able to get service from those neighboring offices and that no one will lose this service entirely.
This closure, along with the closures of many other offices of the USDA will save around $150 million for US Taxpayers. These cuts were announced earlier this week as part of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s plan for the USDA, Blueprint for Stronger Service. Overall, 259 of the USDA offices will be closed across the country as part of this plan.
