Washington County has bought land from Holy Trinity Church of Richmond for the Richmond Sanitary Sewer Project. There was some disagreement between county officials and the church. The land bought from the church was donated to them in the will of one of its former members. The land was given to the church with a restriction. The land was not to be sold until the death of the last member of the church who was alive when the donator died. That person was three months old at the time. The church refused to sell the land to the county, so the county initiated condemnation proceedings on the property. The land was purchased from the church for $95,000, which is more than the appraised price. Rev. Marty Goets with Holy Trinity says there wasn’t anything they could do once condemnation proceedings started. KCII will bring you more updates on this story when they become official.
