Enrollment in Community College Levels Out
Posted: December 23, 2011 @ 6:28 am In Today's Local News
After years of increasing student enrollment, community colleges across the country are starting to see levels flatten out. Tera Pickens, Director of the Washington County Center for Kirkwood Community College, says their enrollment numbers actually dropped this year. The enrollment levels began to rise with the worsening economy, because students were looking for less costly options for post-secondary education. The numbers aren’t dropping down to the levels they were at before the economy took a turn for the worse, they are just not seeing the large increases in enrolment they have seen for the past few years. Other students are enrolling in college part-time to give them the time to work while they go through college.
