Demons Earn Sweeps in Conference Openers
Posted: December 9, 2011 @ 11:27 pm In Today's Local Sports
The Washington boys and girls basketball teams combined to outscore Fairfield 131-83 to earn their first conference wins of the season.
The girls picked up a 60-36 win after taking a 20-0 lead into the second quarter fueled by six three-pointers in the opening minutes, and ten for the game. Scheduling conflicts caused the Demons to miss tons of practice this week which was a worry for head coach Phil Long coming in. His team pushed that aside early. Sydney Greiner led the way with 21 points, including connecting on four from distance. Lauren Vittetoe hit four from downtown and finished with 16 points, Regan Enfield had the other two from behind the arc, finishing with 14 points.
The boys posted a 71-47 win over the Trojans and picked up right where the girls left off, hitting some early shots that set the tone. Colin Steele posted a game-high 18 points, Jake Redlinger poured in a dozen as the Demons built on their 14-point halftime lead and cracked the 70-point barrier for the first time this season, ending a two-game losing streak where they had fallen by a combined total of five points. The Demon boys are back in action tonight when they host IMS. We’ll have the live coverage of that game, including the play-by-play action, on KCII Radio and kciiradio.com.
