Avoiding Frostbite on Cold Days
Posted: December 16, 2011 @ 6:24 am In Today's Local News
Many of us forget that getting frostbite in the winter is very easy. Chrystal Woller from Washington County Public Health says the signs for frostbite may include redness or pain, skin that is white or grayish-yellow in color, skin that feels unusually firm or waxy and numbness.
She says once you get inside, you should immerse the affected areas in water that is comfortable to the touch. Woller adds to not use hot water because your skin won’t be able to recognize the difference in temperature.
She advises if you feel you have frostbite, you should see your doctor right away. To learn more about frostbite, call your doctor or contact Washington County Public Health.
