Rural Health Day is Tomorrow
Posted: November 16, 2011 @ 6:25 am In Today's Local News
Tomorrow, Public Health Officials in rural communities will be trying to educate people on the concerns for rural health care. Alana Poage, the Administrator for Louisa County Public Health, says the types of treatment aren’t the real issue. It’s the distance from health care that is the concern.
She says if you live in a rural community, its going to take a lot longer to receive care after a life threatening event like a stroke or even a car crash. She also says that preventative care is less common in rural communities because people don’t want to make the long drive to a clinic until something is wrong.
She says they educate people 365 days a year, not just on Rural Health Day about the importance of getting a check up to prevent serious health problems. The Board of Health in Louisa County is having a meeting tomorrow that they encourage people to come to if they want to learn about health issues in rural communities.
