Weather Increases Fire Risk
Posted: October 6, 2011 @ 6:26 am In Today's Local News
Southeast Iowa has seen dry weather recently which has prompted reminders about the risk of burning in the area. National Weather Service meteorologist David Sheets says the dry atmosphere and increased winds the next couple of days is increasing the need for limiting outdoor burning.
He says farmers who are harvesting need to show extra care during the heating hours of the afternoon when the humidity is lowest and winds are stronger.
Sheets says the early morning and evening hours will present the lowest threat for fires. He says the cause for the increased fire risk is dry air and a large area of high pressure with low humidity.
