There will be many walkers in the area today as part of Governor Terry Branstad’s Healthiest State Initiative.  Governor Branstad says the goal is to become the healthiest state in the nation.  He says he is excited about all of the participation from schools and other groups. 

The 1K walks being held all over the state are in an effort to reduce obesity.  There will be a walk taking place at Sunset Park from 11:00 and 1:00. 

The walks have also prompted some office closures in order to support the initiative.  The closures will be from 12:00 to 12:45 today. 

Offices closing:  Washington County Public Health, Treasurer, Auditor, County Attorney, Mental Health Disability Services, Veteran Affairs, General Assistance, Conservation, Zoning, Engineer, Assessor, GIS and Information Technology.
