Listeria Outbreaks Prompts Safety Reminders
Posted: October 3, 2011 @ 6:26 am In Today's Local News
With the death toll rising of listeria deaths caused by tainted cantaloupes across the country, Washington County Public Health is passing along reminders of what to do to stay healthy. Chrystal Woller with Washington County Public Health says fever and muscle aches preceded by gastro-intestinal symptoms are the most common signs of listeriosis. She says antibiotics are used to treat the symptoms.
Woller says your doctor can run tests to confirm if you have listeriosis which will prompt Public Health to do a more in-depth investigation to look at foods eaten and potentially link it to the national outbreak. She adds the best way to stay healthy is to thoroughly wash all foods before eating them.
