^[1]Firefighter Joe Redlinger shows equipment to children from the First Baptist Preschool.

The Washington Fire Department toured many schools this week as part of Fire Prevention Week.Firefighter Joe Redlinger says over the course of the week, 14 firefighters visited Lincoln, Stewart and St. James schools teaching the children about preventing fires at home.

He says they brought their equipment as well as their aerial truck and smoke trailer.  Redlinger adds the firefighters will get dressed in the full gear to show the children what they look like to get over their fear.

He says families should have an emergency exit plan, a designated meeting place, call 911 and not to go back inside the building if a fire should happen.
