Area singers are encouraged to head to Fairfield next weekend to compete for the title of Superstar 2011. Kathy Speas with the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center says singers can auditions for the competition for a $3 entry fee.
She says a panel of judges will select participants for the finals in October.
Speas says over 70 contestants auditioned in 2010, and is hopeful for more this year. The competition is open not only to singers in southeast Iowa, but also Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Nebraska.
Last year’s winner was Priscilla Marlar, a student at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.
Speas says the preliminary auditions take place Saturday, September 24 with the finals on October 8. Both events will be in the Sondheim Theater.
