Mid-Prairie took advantage of early turnovers and great kicking by Austin Errthum to hand Davis County it’s first loss of the season 25-18 in Bloomfield Friday night. In a game heard on KCIIradio.com Mid-Prairie jumped out to a 13-0 lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to points off of three straight Mustang fumbles to open the game. The Golden Hawks built their lead with back to back 26 yard field goals by Errthum and a six yard touchdown run by Steven Jones. Davis County would pull within 13-12 going to the locker room following a touchdown run by quarterback Josh Martsching (Martz-ching) from 2 yards out and a 50 yard strike from Martsching to Calvin Matthews. In the second half the Golden Hawk defense picked up its 4th takeaway of the night when Reid Miller picked off a pass and returned it to the Mustang 15 yardline, three plays later Jaemin Powell found Kyle Mullet in the corner of the endzone, after a blocked PAT, Mid-Prairie held a 19-12 advantage. The Golden Hawks would put two more Errthum field goals on the board from 36 and 37 yards, he finished 4 of 5 on the night, the lone miss coming from 55 yards. A late touchdown drive by the Mustangs led by backup quarterback Calvin Utt, who was called on following a serious leg injury to Martsching made it 25-18 following a failed two point conversion attempt. The Golden Hawks recovered the ensuing onside kick to finish the win. Mid-Prairie is now 2-1 on the season 1-0 in district and will be back at home next Friday to face the Rockets of Eddyville-Blakesburg.
