Dry August Hurts Area Crops
Posted: September 1, 2011 @ 6:28 am In Today's Local News
The dry weather we experienced last month has taken its toll on area farm fields. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the rain we received Tuesday was a little help for farmers. He says the rain might help fill out the bean pods and might help the corn.
Hillaker says we received about one-fourth of the normal rainfall in the month of August. He adds the dryness and warmer temperatures were not part of the normal weather cycle.
Hillaker says the long-range outlook the first few days of September are calling for warmer temperatures today and tomorrow and cooler weather this weekend and into next week.
