Residents Get Glimpse of 2012 Races through Mock Election
Posted: August 2, 2011 @ 6:22 am In Today's Local News
Those who attended last week’s Johnson County Fair had an opportunity to get an early look at the races and issues of 2012 through a mock election. The Johnson County Auditor’s Office sponsored the mock election, and invited voters to answer a number of questions concerning next year’s election issues.
Officials asked voters to respond to questions about energy production, social security, tax reform, and the future of U.S. military action in the world. The ballot also asked people to respond whether they would have one of the Republican nominees win the presidential election or to elect President Obama to another term.
The final results of the mock election showed health care as the issue people cared most about, as well as an overwhelming support for the increase of wind and solar energy production.
22% of respondents chose Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann to run against Obama. Mitt Romney finished second with 16%.
