The latest report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture shows an increase this year in corn yield from 2010, while soybean production is slightly down. The report says the southeast region of Iowa is producing about 157 bushels of corn per acre. That’s up from 111 bushels per acre at this time last year.
Brian Wood with Vision Ag says corn producers in Washington County are hoping for some rain soon, or the corn harvest may not come until late September.
The Department of Agriculture’s report says soybean yield in the southeast region is up about one and a half percent from 2010, but production is still lower than last year at this time.
