The Columbus cross country team started practices this week and are about two weeks away from beginning their season. Wildcat Head Coach Mike Jay says they started practices Monday and fortunately they had a large group run over the summer. He says they have 33 kids out including all but two returners on the girls side. One thing Jay likes to have his kids do at the beginning of the season is a community service project and this year they were very involved in Relay For Life which was run last weekend. Columbus will open their season with a new meet for them. They are headed to Cedar Rapids Prairie on August 27th. Jay says Prairie has a goal of trying to have the biggest field for an early season meet and they’ll be running three classes.
