It was a tough night for both Demons teams in Mount Pleasant, as both played very tight games. On the baseball field, the Demons had swept the Panthers in their meetings in Washington, last night in game one the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Demon pitcher Josh Moore and his team behind him would clamp down. Washington tied the game on a Jake Redlinger base hit to deep center field that scored the tying run. In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner at third on a bunt back just left of the mound Moore dived and while on the ground threw the runner out at the plate to avoid the game ending. In the bottom of the eighth the Panthers with a runner at third got a base hit to win it 2-1. Henry Kreiger-Coble started the game, Conner Shull came on in the fourth, and Braeden Shull entered with the game tied in the top of the sixth.
In game two, which was heard on KCII, the Panthers started Corbin Taylor on the mound and the Demons started strong with an Anthony Ossman base hit, Brad Weatherman came up and hit a two run homer to left. Weatherman would get on in the fourth and Jake Redlinger would hit a two run homer to right to put Washington up 4-0. Demon Pitcher Jared Henry retired the first 12 batters they faced with a lot of ground outs. He took a perfect game into the fifth but the Panthers’ bats caught fire as they got six consecutive hits which included two doubles and a triple. In the inning they’d score seven runs on seven hits. The Demons came right back though in the top of the sixth with two outs, Colton Covington got a hit then an error was followed by back to back to back doubles with Moore, Weatherman, and Jordan Gier hitting doubles. Washington scored four runs to go up 8-7.
In the bottom of the seventh the Panthers led off with a Henry Kreiger-Coble double and on a Tanner Courtney base hit to right Kreiger-Coble round third to come home but was thrown out at the plate to keep the game going. With runners at first and second Braden Shull hit a hard ball that looked like was headed to right but first baseman Colton Covington made a diving stop and threw him out at first . The play put runners at second and third and first base empty. The Demons intentionally walked Ross Hietmeir to load them up with two outs and Alex O’Donnell came up with a base hit to win it 9-8. Mount Pleasant improves to 8-2 in the conference and the Demons fall to 8-4.
