Harlan Cools Demon Bats in Semis
Posted: July 30, 2011 @ 7:30 am In Today's Local Sports
The Washington Demon baseball team struggled to produce hits in their 3A state semifinal game against Harlan. In a game heard on KCII, the three seed Demons faced a seven seed Harlan Cyclone team that got a complete game from Sophomore David Ratigan. Ratigan had only given up one hit through five innings, held Washington to just four hits and struck out seven in the game.
Meanwhile Harlan scored their eight runs with only one extra base hit which was a double. The Cyclones scored two in the second and one in the third to go up 3-0. They added four more in the sixth to lead 7-0. The Demons scored their two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Head Coach Nathan Miller felt they didn’t play poorly, they just seemed flat at the plate.
Brad Weatherman pitched the first three innings, gave up four hits, struck out two and walked one. Josh Moore pitched two and two thirds and Colin Steele pitched one and a third. With the loss the Demons end their season 30-8 and match the schools deepest postseason run.
Harlan now moves to 21-14 and faces Solon for the 3A title. Solon beat Marion yesterday 11-2. Solon won the 2A title last year and his 38-4.
