A Mount Pleasant come back forced extra innings as the Demons and the Panthers opened the baseball postseason with a nail biter. In a game heard on KCII, Washington won the coin toss and was the home team. The Demons got on the board first in the bottom of the first with a runner at second and Brad Weatherman at the plate hit a two run home run to left. Washington got a lead off base hit from Colin Steele in the second and was sacrificed to second on a bunt from Brian Roder. Colton Covington had a base hit to right to score Steele. The Demons scored another run in the third to go up 4-0. Brad Weatherman started on the mound for Washington and took a no-hitter into the fifth. In that inning the Panthers got a single and a double to score their first run. Josh Moore came on to pitch in the sixth. Mount Pleasant got another run across and went into the top of the seventh down 4-2. With runners at second and third, Henry Kreiger-Coble hit a double that tied the game and we’d head to extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, the Demons got runners at second and third, an intentional walk to Brad Weatherman with one out loaded the bases for Jake Redlinger hit a base hit by the shortstop for the win. Moore gets the win holding Mount Pleasant to three hits, walked one and struck out three.
The Demons improve to 27-7 while Mount Pleasant ends their season 25-9. Now Washington will face Fort Madison on Monday in Mount Pleasant. The Bloodhounds beat Keokuk 6-2 in the first game of the night.
In the neighboring district which will produce the Demon district’s sub-state opponent, Knoxville beat Oskaloosa 7-3 and Centerville was a winner over Fairfield 7-5. So Knoxville plays Centerville on Monday.
