Relaxed Fishing Regulations About to End
Posted: June 14, 2011 @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News
The relaxed fishing regulations at Foster Pond near Crawfordsville are about to end. Chad Dolan, Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the need for this temporary change was because of too many common carp and bullheads. He says they are bottom feeders that uproot the sediment looking for food which makes the water cloudy.
This creates a problem for the sight-feeding fish like largemouth bass and bluegill. Dolan says anglers with a valid fishing license can still catch and keep any number of game fish without any restrictions until tomorrow.
They will then apply toxicants to the lake to kill the remaining fish population to solve the problem. Dolan says no fishing will be allowed after that point and the lake will be restocked in the fall.
