Kalona residents were without 911 service for part of the afternoon Friday.  The Washington County Communications Center received notice around 2:00 yesterday that emergency phone services were down due to a cut fiber cable.  Cara Sorrells with the Communications Center says repairs to fix the issue were underway immediately upon hearing the report, and phone services were restored just before 5:00.  All other Washington County communities were unaffected by the outage.  Kalona residents were instructed to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
