Washington County’s Unemployment Rate Drops for Second Straight Month

Washington County’s unemployment rate went down in April according to data released from the Iowa Workforce Development. Washington County has over 12,000 people in the workforce. Washington County’s unemployment rate went down for the second straight month to 5% down 1.2%.
Unemployment rates averaged three quarters of a percent lower in all of southeast Iowa. The lowest decrease was in neighboring Johnson County while Iowa County’s unemployment rate also dropped 1.2%.
The statewide estimate of those receiving benefits went down 500 people. When compared to the national figures, Iowa’s unemployment rate is 3 percentage points lower.
