The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has relaxed the fishing regulations at Foster Pond near Crawfordsville.  Chad Dolan, Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa DNR says the need for this temporary change is because of too many common carp and bullheads.  He says they are bottom feeders that uproot the sediment looking for food which makes the water cloudy.

This creates problem for the sight-feeding fish like largemouth bass and bluegill.  Dolan says anglers with a valid fishing license can now catch and keep any number of game fish without any restrictions.

He adds this will be allowed until June 15th when they will apply toxicants to the lake to kill the remaining fish population to solve the problem.  Dolan says no fishing will be allowed after that point and the lake will be restocked in the fall.
