Fire Department Creating New Rescue Team
Posted: March 29, 2011 @ 6:30 am In Today's Local News
The Washington Fire Department has received a grant from the US Government and Fire Chief Tom Wide says they are creating a new rescue team. Senator Chuck Grassley’s office says the Fire Department is receiving almost $72,000 from the US Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that is to be used to recruit and train firefighters, purchase equipment or improve fire stations and facilities.
Chief Wide says they are starting a tactical rescue team with this grant. He says this team will allow the Fire Department to perform trench, high angle and confined space rescues.
Regarding the grant, Senator Grassley says “firefighters need the right equipment in order to protect their communities and these funds help make sure they have access to what they need.” The funds awarded were based on the fire department’s ability to meet criteria set by the US Department of Homeland Security and FEMA who administers the funds.
