New Census Numbers Have Effect on County
Posted: February 14, 2011 @ 6:26 am In Today's Local News
The 2010 census data was released last week and Washington County had a 5% increase in population. Washington County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Miksch says the growth we experienced is a positive for the county. He says the growth will mean an increase in sales tax revenues, retail sales, adds to the housing demands, and could also increase property tax revenue.
Miksch adds the counties that experienced a loss in population means the cost of county government per person in the county is higher. He says this increase will not impact the county in the short term, but will result in more property tax revenue in the county on a longer term basis.
