Five Mid-Prairie students have been awarded medals for their participation in speech contests.  Elyse Chapman, who is a speech coach at Mid-Prairie High School says the 5 students participated in different competitions to earn their way to the state awards ceremony.  She says Kirk Schlaubaugh, Barry Schintler and Jordan Adam won an award doing group improvisation. 

Ryan Shellady and Taylor Troyer won for musical theater.  Chapman says this is the first time both of these groups have won a medal in the competition. 

The awards were handed out in Ames on February 19th.  Mid-Prairie has been a member of the Iowa High School Speech Association since 1979.
