The State Fire Marshall has pronounced that the cause of the Kalona fire a week ago is unknown. Kalona Fire Chief Steve Yotty says the state fire marshal has reported that because of the extensive heat and damage the cause of the fire would never be found. Crews responded to the house fire on the morning of December 23rd just south of Kalona at the home of the Nisly family at 1216 Maple Avenue in Rural Kalona. The house did suffer extreme smoke damage, but most of their belongings were saved. The shop area is a complete loss. Yotty said he wasn’t sure whether the family was going to rebuild or not.
