The Washington Demon girls basketball team met a strong shooting 8th ranked Williamsburg team that got out of the gates and had a twenty point lead in the second quarter. The Radiers were ranked number ten in 3A, but when the latest rankings came out yesterday evening they had moved up a couple of spots. Williamsburg to a 9-2 lead and were up 20-5 at the end of the first quarter. They had it up to 30-9 in the second quarter. The Raiders did that with their leading scorer Mackenzie Bigbee on the bench with foul trouble and held her to four first half points. The Demons ended the first half on a little run, but early in the second Bigbee made three or four tough post up 10 footers over defenders to keep her team on track. The Raiders heading in had hit three three pointers as a team and last night they had five four of which came in the first half. Williamsburg won 57-39. Washington Head Coach Phil Long says they ran into a tough team that shot very well. For the Demons, Lauren Vittetoe led with 13 points and a couple of three’s. Jenna Krebs had 9, and Sydney Greiner ended up with 5. For Williamsburg, Bigbee had 12, and freshman Paige Greiner had 12. The Raiders are now 3-0 while the Demons fall to 2-1 and will be off until a week from tonight when they open conference play in Fairfield.
