Earlier KCII brought you the story on how Washington enrollment numbers are going up, but not all school districts numbers are. Columbus Community Schools lost 51 students this year, going from 993 to 942 students. Superintendent Rich Bridenstine says he had thought that numbers had bottomed out. He says it came about because of people moving. He says their largest employer has begun to recruit Burmese workers who are young and don’t have children. Bridenstine says he believes in a few years they will have Burmese students in their school and their numbers will rise. For now Bridenstine says the loss in students will affect their budget in some way but he doesn’t think there will be any teacher cuts. He says they will probably end with a smaller positive number in the budget then they will this year.
