At Wednesday night’s Washington City Council meeting, a proposal was made by the city water department regarding the status of three of Washington’s wells.  Water Plant Director Chad McCleary says he has noticed different forms of bacteria in two of the city wells.  McCleary says while the bacteria found is not harmful to the citizens because of chlorination, he says the bacteria is causing problems with the filters inside the water plant.  McCleary says the chemical treatment to fix the bacteria will cost the city nearly $40,000.  The City Council has agreed to hire Cahoy Well and Pump Service to destroy the bacteria.  The bacteria from the wells will be cleaned within the next month.
