The Washington County Board of Supervisors has approved “emergency” culvert repairs to Underwood Avenue, also known as Old Military Road, west of Ainsworth. Yesterday Assistant Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius said the $111,000 bid from Washington based Iowa Bridge and Culvert was more than the projected $95,000 estimate, but recommended awarding the contract anyway due to the urgent need for repairs. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday and should be finished by Thanksgiving. Thorius said the City of Ainsworth is helping “a little bit” with the costs of the project, and his office is “in the beginning stages of the process” to possibly receive disaster assistance from FEMA.
