A standing room only crowd greeted Republican gubernatorial candidate Terry Branstad and lieutenant governor nominee Kim Reynolds during a half hour stop yesterday in Washington. The pair held a “Road to Victory” rally at 10:45 am at Coffee Corner on the Washington Square. Branstad said the rally was part of a 36 stop tour during the final week of his push to retake the governor’s office. Other high profile republicans present included State Treasurer candidate Dave Jamison, State Auditor candidate David Vaudt and Ag Secretary candidate Bill Northey. Branstad said while looking out at the Washington Square, he was reminded of Iowa’s high commercial property tax, currently at 100% of market value. As governor, Branstad said he would lower that rate to around 65% to compete with other Midwest states.
