Washington Board Of Education Approves Fuel and Dairy Bids, Sets Goals For Student Achievement
Posted: August 13, 2010 @ 6:28 am In Today's Local News
The Washington Community School District’s Board Of Education wants 70% or more of its students to be proficient in core subjects. Wednesday the board approved proficiency goals of 70% for reading, 75% for math and 80% for science. Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen recommended higher goals for math and science due to higher student scores in those subjects. After a discussion of gambling on a locked in fuel price for the entire school year, the board chose to continue its monthly fuel service from Cobb oil. Roberts Dairy was also selected as the new dairy provider, a week after the company was turned down due to a report of poor Roberts service six years ago. School board member Richard Boardwell asked for an investigation, and Superintendent Jorgensen believed conditions had changed, and enough time had passed to approve Roberts Dairy a second time.
