The Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Iowa more than $84 million in Community Development Block Grants to fund long-term recovery and prevention planning. Southeast Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack told KCII more than $300 million dollars went to 13 states, but Iowa was awarded more than a quarter of all funding.  He says that’s because of the “great job” done by the Governor Culver, state legislators and other officials to make sure the type of devastation seen in 2008 won’t be repeated.  Last summer, Iowa received $517 million in CDBG funds.
