Washington County Supervisors To Pay $1,000 To Apply For EPA Grant
Posted: July 30, 2010 @ 6:25 am In Today's Local News
Washington County has teamed with Kalona, Wellman, Riverside and Washington to apply for a contaminated land rehabilitation program. The Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfield Assessment Grant provides funding “to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning and community involvement” on land that has some form of contamination. County Engineer David Patterson says if approved, a Brownfield Grant would give city and county agencies the ability to identify and fix contaminated areas for three years, with up to $1 million in cost reimbursement. Patterson recommended, and the Washington County Board of Supervisors approved, the use of Stanley Consultants to write the grant application, adding that Stanley has a “100% success rate” for grant applications.
