The U.S. Office of Management and Budget says $98 Billion was spent improperly in 2009, and a new bill that awaits the President’s signature is designed to slow and stop wasteful government spending. Southeast Iowa’s 2nd District Representative Dave Loebsack says the bill “is a critical step to cracking down on the waste of taxpayer dollars by … [identifying] and [eliminating] improper payments by federal agencies.” He says much like Iowa households, federal agencies “must also live within their means.” Loebsack says the new legislation puts responsibility on the shoulders of individual government agencies by making them develop action plans to avoid future waste and recover previous overpayments.
