Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says this month’s heavy rainfall is the “most detrimental in southern and southeastern Iowa”, and he expects several counties in the Washington area will receive federal disaster relief funding once a survey of crop losses is completed. The USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service says this is the 13^th wettest June in the 138 years weather records have been kept in the state, and despite rainstorms preventing many farmers from spraying their fields, 75% of Iowa’s corn crop is still in “good to excellent” condition.
