Wind, Rain and Frost Hinder Corn Planting
Posted By News On @ 7:20 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled
Scattered showers, high winds, cooler temperatures mixed with some frost hindered planting progress last week. However, the USDA says despite the weather, southeast Iowa farmers made a six percent increase in corn planting, jumping from 80 percent to 86 percent last week, which is below the state average of 93 percent. Soybeans planted in southeast Iowa last week jumped from 12 percent to 23 percent. The statewide average of soybeans planted so far is 44 percent. The weather caused only 2 and a half days suitable work for planting last week in this corner of the state. This week’s forecast calls for rain through Thursday, with things clearing up for the weekend.
