This is National Police Week. In the city of Washington 12 people have taken the oath to “Serve With Pride.” Among them is Sergeant Shawn Ellingson. He says it is rewarding to see someone who’s made a mistake, learned from it and gone on to better themselves for it. Another member of the WPD is Patrol Officer Brian Van Willigen. He’s actually the only Drug Recognition Specialist in Washington County. Van Willigen says early in his career he would sometimes get frustrated. He says today he doesn’t let negative experiences affect him on a personal level. Both Van Willigen and Ellingson have been police officers for 20 years.
