This is Severe Weather Awareness Week, a time when people are encouraged to review their plan of action should potentially dangerous weather develop. WeatherEye Meteorologist Laura Lockwood says knowing the difference between watches and warnings is paramount. She says a watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop, while a warning means it is happening, or is imminent. Lockwood says during any type of warning, people should take shelter immediately and stay tuned to local media for updated information.

And during Severe Weather Awareness Week, there is some weather you should be aware of hunderstorms will track along and especially north of I-80 this morning. A few of these may be severe with large hail around 1 inch in diameter. In addition, the storms may continually redevelop in some locations resulting in locally heavy rainfall and the threat for flash flooding. Thunderstorms are then expected to redevelop over portions of central and southern Iowa by mid afternoon. These storms will move back across the area late this afternoon and tonight, and bring the threat of large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
