Economic development: it’s become a big challenge for many communities in light of the recession. In Washington, three organizations make it part of their mission: Main Street, the Washington Economic Development Group and the Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Executive Director Tim Coffey says economic development doesn’t always mean bringing in new businesses, but rather working to help improve existing ones. Coffey says the three organizations get a lot of inquiries from former Washington residents and business owners who notice that a certain establishment might no longer exist and are interested to see if there’s a vacancy.
