The Washington High School’s dropout rate has eased slightly from about 1.6 percent last year, to 1.4 percent. Principal Shane Ehresman says they’d always like the rate to be zero, but the numbers released for WHS by the state department of education are “incredibly low.” He credits much of the student’s success to school programs that don’t focus solely on academics. Ehresman offers the ASSURE Center, the SUCCEED Program and the school’s at risk coordinator as some examples.
